Capitulo General 2009

Only now are we beginning to appreciate the breadth, depth, and intensity of our work as lay collaborators during this XVI Chapter in Rome. The high caliber of professional educators in the faith who attended and participated in this process was most impressive, and the extraordinary level of preparation and organization by the General Team of the Sisters of the Company of Mary, Our Lady, allowed each person to contribute in a purposeful and meaningful way. We arrived from different countries and contexts, but the spirit of the community and the desire to further the work of our foundress, Saint Jeanne de Lestonnnac never diminished, in spite of the countless hours dedicated to this self-evaluation process. What is more, healthy and animated debate regarding profound issues of our times was encouraged and directed with respect, responsibility, and candor.

As Americans from the province that includes both California and Arizona, we are excited to transcend the traditional boundaries that have made interaction across great distances slow and impractical. A generation of technologically native students and adults are coming to our schools and ministries. And as other change in societies around the world continues to accelerate exponentially, we believe the issues of concern regarding a host of challenges were appropriately addressed. We look forward and with great hope to working with our fellow Company of Mary family members. May God bless everyone who has taken on this special commitment.
